Beginner Hapkido Curriculum

1st Quarter / December – February

What is Hapkido? On the hard-soft scale of martial arts, hapkido stands somewhere in the middle, employing “soft” techniques similar to jujutsu and aikido as well as “hard” techniques reminiscent of taekwondo and tang soo do. Even the “hard” techniques, though, emphasize circular rather than linear movements. Hapkido is an eclectic, hybrid martial art with the three principles of hapkido being:

Harmony/Nonresistance Principle (Hwa)

Circle principle (Won)

Water/Flexible principle (Yu)

Self Defense:

02 – Cross Side Single Hand Wrist Grab (for attacker using right grab defender’s right wrist) rotate hand clockwise with weak link breakaway as you move to your left (opposite for left grab)
