Mr Brett Lang

After retiring with a 22-year career in the Army, Brett Lang came to Gordon Martial Arts with his family over the summer of 2020.   He first showed interest in martial arts as a child, but it was too expensive for his family to afford.  Later, he was able to earn a black belt in TKD, an advanced belt in Combat Hapkido, and took first place in New York State Nationals in 1996. After a year of coming to Gordon Martial Arts with his family, he decided to dedicate more time to helping students achieve their goal of earning their black belts.  With the emphasis on assisting with the junior’s Taekwon-Do class, he enjoys seeing the beauty of the art through the forms/patterns.   With sparring, he gets to see and instruct on the implementation.  And the self-defense portion for practicality.

While in the Army, he had over ten overseas deployments serving in various units from LRS to SOF.   By the time his career in the Army came to a close, he had earned certification as a Military instructor in Recon, Surveillance Leaders Course, Pre-Ranger, Air Assault, Rappel Master, Advanced Rifle Marksmanship, Urban Warfare, Asymmetric Operations and Counterterrorism, Close Quarters Combat, and Combatives.  He also earned a Master’s Degree in Intelligence Management, BS in Homeland Security, and a BS in Cybersecurity and Networking.

With his first official taste of martial arts in 1995 after returning from a tour in Germany, Mr Lang brings much experience in martial arts, real-world observations, and formal education.  Making GMA his home, he looks forward to earning black belt ranking in Hapkido and Combat JuJitsu while developing a strong leadership program with a ranking system for children which encourages volunteer work, community outreach, and positive school performance.  Long term, he intends to earn a fifth-degree in Taekwon-Do and continue to expand his knowledge base in various other martial arts styles.

Mr Lang’s martial Arts Influences are the greats like Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Chuck Norris, and Jet Li.  But he credits his wife for being his real-life hero.  When seriously injured from a parachute that didn’t deploy, his wife helped him through the tough times after those injuries.
